A Day in the Life                                                        President’s Letter

By Stephen J. Ezzo, MD                                      Attend to your muse;
                                                            Take a much-needed nap;
Meet in the pre-dawn         Despite my resilience,         Lower your BP
Do prior auth forms;         There are times when I feel;   With the cat on your lap.
Add in more visits           Both trapped in a maze
Weather the storm.           And on a treadmill.            Watch the kids play
                                                            Or better yet, join;
Clean out the inbasket       Please don’t say “robust”      It certainly outweighs
Move things to “done;”       In your dealings today;        Chasing more coin
Phone in to conf call        If you ask for my EQ
Lunch on the run.            I will SWOT you away.          The work we do
                                                            Is needed by most,
Ten problem OV               Do not misunderstand           But can surely consume
Means multiple clicks;       The profession’s a joy;        An unaware host.
With all these check marks   It’s all this minutiae
Who is truly sick?           That leaves one annoyed.       Our time here is brief
                                                            With so much to do;
To Hippocrates’ teachings    Are all the checks green?      It’s best to determine
We should avail;             Which “MU” can I bend?         What matters to you.
Yet, patience is challenged  And don’t get me started
When EHRs fail.              On ICD-10.                    “Running everywhere
                                                           “At such a speed
Evening committee            But….                         “‘Til they find
Pray do not waste time;                                    “There’s no need
There are records to finish  Take a step back,             “(There’s no need)”
And make dinner at nine.     Don’t straighten the house;

The end of the work day
Blows up my email.
